Crank: an eccentric or whimsical notion or "turn up the volume."
Culture Crank is a mash-up of contemporary culture:what we are hearing, thinking, reading, watching. It's Music. Books, Film. TV, Politics, Pop Pieces. You Name It.
For now, we will publish only music criticism. As the site grows, we will add new writers addressing all of the subjects contained in this site.
This site will publish intermediate size (300-500 words) on a multitude of topics having to do with all aspiects of popular culture.
It will also publish longer essays (500-1000) on how our culture intersects with itself. Why is something relevant today when it was not 1 year ago, for example. Or the reverse.
Who matters, at the moment, in popular culture, and why?
Culture Crank is an independently run website whose vision is to add meaningful analysis to the objects, events, personalities, and consumer objects that appear in our lives: What we encounter in our everyday lives. Things that exasperate us, infuriate us, amuse us. We want to exult in a discussion of all these things, for a better understanding of them: perhaps even insight. Culture Crank will have a stable of some of the finest writers and essayists in all media. We are taking our first step.
